12/19/2024: GT - RIP???
GT Bicycles, which separated from Cycling Sports Group/Cannondale to a stand-alone Pon Holdings brand last year with its own design team, will pause releasing new products while streamlining operations.
GT Managing Director Jason Schiers told BRAIN on Tuesday there will be layoffs before the end of the year but the brand will continue to sell bikes in 2025. In a story for BRAIN in February, Schiers said the GT team was expanding from eight to 23 employees.
"To ensure a sustainable and successful future, we are implementing a strategic reorientation to align with evolving customer preferences," according to a statement by GT.
The brand will focus "on core strengths, and refining our strategy to position GT for long-term growth. ... We will continue to sell our current range from existing inventory," GT said in the statement.
Warranty and customer service will be handled by Cycling Sports Group.
"GT Bicycles remains a brand with strong potential, and this decision has been taken to lay a solid foundation for its next chapter," the brand said.
11/1/2024: Site Cleanup and 2013 - 2017 TransWorldRideBMX is LIVE!
May not seem like a big deal, but OldSchoolBMXTV.com has been cleaned up!
Recently Squarespace (Site Host) changed up all the formats and templates, usually not a big deal, but what it ended up doing was throwing all the aspects of the site to look like it was made with GeoCities! (You know GeoCities, right???)
Anyway, with that I needed to go in and page by page, image by image clean up the mess. I am glad it happened, but was a little time consuming to get it fixed. Made for much cleaner site for both Desktop and Mobile...
So Fresh, So Clean!
Somehwere around 2013, I subscribed to TranbsworldRIDEBMX Magazine. This was around when my BMX warm and fuzzies started again, so I needed to see what was happening worldwide. Anyway, from 2013 through 2017, they are now available to view.
2013 - TransworldRIDEbmx
2014 - TransworldRIDEbmx
2015 - TransworldRIDEbmx
2016 - TransworldRIDEbmx
2017 - TransworldRIDEbmx
4/11/2024: Radio Silence/Swiss BMX Frestyle?
Wanted to give an update… Been on a bit of Radio Silence as in the last few weeks, I MOVED! Things have finally calmed down and building furniture and getting rid of boxes is almost at an end.
Saw this video during that time that was from a Swiss Youth TV Show back in the 80’s. I translated the description:
The youth magazine “Mikado” is hosted by the Valais pop singer Michel Villa. This show features freestyle BMX riders from Steinhausen, young Alphorn players from Thurgau, and noise imitator Ezio Bedin. [from June 8, 1988] | SRF archive. Check out the full video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buiEpPCCCfo
3/1/2024: The Head Angle #10: Dennis McCoy
If you liked the OurBMX Interview with McGoo, this this the equivleant from “The Head Angle” with guest Dennis McCoy.
Dennis goes into such detail and memory from when he first rode a bike without Training Wheels to telling the story on how “Large Ray” came up with an idea to Micrwave a turd (For 10 Minutes) during a Hotel Stay from an AFA Comp!
12/30/2023: End of Year and what’s on the Horizon for OldSchoolBMXTV
I want to take a minute and thank everyone for another RAD year and kind of give a State of Union, OldSchoolBMXTV with what's coming.
With old also comes some new or at least some new(er). As I have yet to post some BMX Action issues from 1988 and 1989, I also will be posting Transworld RIDEbmx from 2014 through 2017. I am still in the middle of converting them (Image/Post you see)
Also still working on the video conversations. Hit a little bit of a snag with those as does anyone know how hard it is to find a VCR repair guy in 2023???
Remember, if you have a video (VHS or DVD) and you want to convert or have some old Magazines or pictures that need the digital treatment, contact me here.
Again, thank you for the support and let's get 2024 off to a RAD start!
12/23/2023: AWESOME interview with the Creator, Bob Haro himself with the guys from Our BMX
All those questions that you wanted to ask Bob, they did… They talked about the beginning, the sale of Haro, and of course, what dude was Bob in the movie E.T.!
11/14/2023: Greg Hill’s Professional BMX Skills is now ready to view!
Had some plumbing done at the house in the past couple of months. The plumber (Local guy, not on Instagram) went into my garage at a point and started asking me where I got all those old 80s bikes, my response: "The 80s! They’re mine!"
He was back recently for another job and brought this Greg Hill Professional BMX Skills book that survived a house fire he had. He asked me if I wanted to add it to the site, but also emphasized that due to its condition, he did not think I could (Water Damage).
Well, I let that sit under a good amount of weight for a few weeks, and now you can view it. I did not try to clean up the pages/book, I like that it adds a patina to the whole story!
10/27/2023: A Chat with “McGoo”
How did we get here? I had a brief conversation with Chris about potentially co-hosting a month or two ago and we landed on a single name: Harold McGruther. A true icon behind the scenes. Intelligent, polarizing, hilarious, and after 40 years of growing, building, and marketing brands, he's a true wealth of crazy stories, historical facts, and insight. Truly an honor to have McGoo sit down and run through his timeline and scratch the surface of his long history in the BMX industry....
Five hours is a really, really long podcast. I debated on trimming it down or splitting it into two episodes. In the end, I think one massive episode is the answer...
